Why Get Hardwood Flooring?

With all the different flooring options available, hardwood flooring may seem like an expensive option. However, hardwood flooring remains the best choice in having a space that is safe and clean with low maintenance.

When you consider the overall life of a hardwood floor, the benefits of wood flooring outweigh the initial cost.

Safe&Clean

One of the biggest advantages of hardwood floors is that hardwood flooring is a more sanitary option than other floor types. When thinking about carpet vs. hardwood, a good amount of dust, germs and other debris get absorbed into the carpet fibers. With hardwood flooring, there is no place for debris to hide, making for a healthier, safer living environment, especially for allergy sufferers.

Sleek Design

If you’re looking at hardwood flooring options for your home, you have a major choice ahead of you: engineered or solid. Engineered wood flooring has an elegant appearance that goes well with almost any style of decor. You can even change your decor and know that your new look will work with your flooring.

Cost and Sustainability

Engineered hardwood consists of a layer of hardwood on top of high-quality plywood, so it usually doesn’t cost as much as solid hardwood flooring. This also means engineered hardwood takes less solid timber to make, helping to conserve natural resources. Engineered hardwood is a more sustainable option—both for your home and the environment around it.

Easier Installation

The installation process is one of the most obvious reasons to choose engineered hardwood flooring. Hardwood floors are versatile enough to install on almost any surface. The type of flooring you get may depend on the surface it is being installed on, but our experts will guide you in the right direction.

Engineered hardwood is sturdy and durable, allowing it to last in your home for years to come. Due to its beauty, durability, and real wood composition, engineered hardwood helps increase the value of your house—both now and down the road.

What Is Engineered Wood Flooring Made Of?

There are three main sections to an engineered wood floor:

  1. The top layer
  2. The central core
  3. The backing layer

Engineered wood flooring core is made up of anything between 3 and 12 layers of ply. These layers of ply are cross layered, then glued and pressed together to form a really strong bond. It’s this bonded core board that makes engineered wood flooring so very different from solid wood flooring.

The top layer is made of a real hardwood veneer or skin, which comes pre-finished from the factory. The top veneer, which looks just like the top of a traditional solid wood plank, is called the lamella.

The backing layer is made of thin birch veneer.

Facts about engineered wood flooring:

  • Engineered flooring is suitable for underfloor heating.
  • Engineered flooring is suitable for floating over any suitable subfloor.
  • Engineered flooring is available in wider planks and longer lengths which allows for a range of different finished looks.
