Requirements for importing wood products from China
Quality requirements
- First of all, the raw materials need to be dried and treated, and the moisture content of the wood should be controlled, generally required at 8%-12%.
- To prevent cracking and deformation of the board.
- LVL should not have delamination, warping phenomenon.
- Sanding should be in place, spray paint should be uniform, there should be no flow hanging, blistering, colour difference, etc.
America for example
Importing wood products to the U.S. generally has two requirements. First, you must ensure the wood is sanitized fumigation and heat treatment requirements before they’re allowed to be imported. It is not suitable for fungal growth and serves the purpose of corrosion protection. The high temperature kills bugs and eggs for the purpose of eliminating pests. Second, you must submit the Timber and Timber Products Import Permit with each commercial import.
Once you have confirmed that the supplier is on the APHIS list, you can go to the ePermits website to apply for an import permit.
To access ePermits, you must have a USDA eAuthentication account and be able to register online. You will also need to provide general information for the licence application.
Fill in the Lacey act declaration as required, depending on the wood products you are importing.
APHIS has developed standards for Wooden Packaging Materials imported into the USA. Wooden packaging materials are preferably made from plywood or MDF.
Country of origin labels must be used for all consumer products, including wood products, imported and sold in the United States. The country of origin should be included in your declaration documents and labelling.
